LAKE NAIVASHA
This beautiful freshwater lake is situated North West of Nairobi in Kenya's Great Rift Valley. It lies at an elevation of 1890 meters above sea level. There are two perennial rivers that feed the lake including an under flow. It is interesting to note that the lake has no outlet. Lake Naivasha has a sizeable hippo population that is known for invading private properties on the lake shores. It has a healthy population of fish including Black bass, Tilapia and Cray Fish. A variety of fish eating birds can be spotted swooping into the lake to pluck fish out of the water. These include the Long Tailed and Great Cormorants, along with fish eagles, pelicans and various types of kingfishers. Naivasha is known for its spectacular sunsets! Storms over the lake can be very sudden and the water can get quite rough.
CRATER LAKE
This emerald green lake lies at the bottom of an extinct volcanic crater. It often gets dotted with pink flamingo and makes for a wonderful sight. Close to Lake Naivasha it is definitely worth visiting.
LAKE OLOIDEN
This lake lies next to Lake Naivasha and is extremly serene making it a popular place for boat rides.
